What's in store for the MCU in 2021?
As restrictions have started to be lifted and the cinemas are now open again, it’s time for Marvel and Disney to do their best and bombard our senses, minds and, let’s face it, hearts (I Love You 3 Million still cuts deep).
With Phase 3 ending triumphantly, there are several question marks over whether the magical will still be there. Will we fall for the next generation of heroes to grace the screens? Will Galactus, Adam Strange or Dr. Doom be the next big bad? Will Deadpool finally team up with Spidey? We can speculate, but right now, we’re going to deal with what we do know, by looking at the 2021 slate of Marvel films briefly.
Black Widow – July 9th
Finally, after coronavirus hell put it back and back and back, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow gets her own kick-ass solo movie. Starring Scarlett Johansson who has really made the part her own, it looks like we’re going to have a rip-roaring ride finding out more about this mysterious character’s backstory.
This film focuses on a period somewhere between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and features an amazing cast including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova (another Black Widow), David Harbour as Red Guardian (a sort of Russian super soldier in the style of Captain America and the father figure for the girls) and another Black Widow (Melina Volstokoff played by Rachel Weisz). Although director Cate Shortland hinted this would see Romanov handing the baton to Belova (which makes sense as poor Nat is dead really, we all know this), the big secret is who’s actually playing Taskmaster. Check out the Taskmaster Action Figure here and all the Black Widow Funko POPs here at Deep Nerdd.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – September 3rd
Shang-Chi is relatively unknown to all but comic nerds but think of this as the MCU’s first full-on foray into martial arts films. Simu Lui takes lead in the first Asian-led film, with a guest cast that includes Tony Leung as The Mandarin (the real one, sort of, this time) and Awkwafina as Shang’s friend. You can find Official Shang-Chi Funko POPs here and the Action Figure here at Deep Nerdd.
Eternals – November 5th
Eternals will see the MCU getting rather high concept, it seems. This is probably the long shot of the slate for the year, as it’s another bunch of characters people aren’t too familiar with. However, the fact Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjani, Kit Harrington and Salma Hayek. Basically, following a tragic event, The Eternals, an immortal race of aliens created by the Celestials (just Peter Quill’s father, Ego) who’ve been living in secret for 7000 years on earth, come out of hiding and reunite to battle The Deviants (bad Eternals). You'll be able to find Eternals items very soon at Deep Nerdd so keep checking our site for pre orders and updates.
Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17th
Last but not least, to close out the year of what’ll at the very least be an exciting and interesting dive into Phase Four properly after the success of the Disney+ shows, is the third film of the Tom Holland MCU Spider-Man films. No Way Home sees familiar faces returning like Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and wait…Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus (yes, two villains from the two previous incarnations of Spidey on the big screen).
It’s likely the multiverse will play a part, especially with Dr. Strange, the villains, and there’s also rumours that Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and even Ryan Reynolds will make an appearance. We’ll see! Deep Nerdd has some Spider-Man NWH POPs available right now for pre order here and here and here. Check them out at Deep Nerdd!
